Representation: Action Adventure

In the film Edge of Tomorrow the main character Rita Vrataski is represented as an action hero.

Costume: Sargent Rita Vrataski wears typical military clothes consisting of khaki trousers and a tight fitting top- this maintains her femininity but gives off a masculine, strong feel towards her Character. When she is in battle she wears a suit which provides her with guns and various weapons to protect her and kill off any mimics.
Makeup: Rita is a very attractive woman therefore doesn’t wear much makeup, this is also because she is in the army and it connotes she hasn’t got much time to take care with her appearance and has to be training most of the time. The fact that she doesn’t wear makeup also shows that her appearance isn’t her main priority and that her attitude towards the war is very.
Hair: her hair is plaited at the back to keep it out of her face when she is training and fighting. She has blonde, fair hair which represents her femininity. Her fair, attractive looks contrast with the dangerous, violent job she pursues and the strength and attitude she has.
Props: the suit she wears is the typical, futuristic, military war suit however she isn’t the typical military solider, because of her attractive looks, this breaks the stereotype. Her suit holds various weapons such as guns, spears and electronic weapons. These show connotations of violence and make the viewer think she is fearless and a strong woman who makes it desirable to watch because it contradicts the idea a lot of people have about young, attractive women and it also shows that women are as strong and as capable of men.
The vehicles they drive are army trucks to keep the conventions of a war like action film and to keep some original aspects to the film by not breaking all of the stereotypes.
